Water Well Pumps
While most people live in a city or town that provides a common water and sewage system, not everyone is so fortunate. People who live outside of a major city or town, and are in a rural area, often have to have their own water and sewage system because the town either can’t afford to provide one, are the home is isolated from it.
For those who do not live near town water systems, they must get their own water, often from a well and using a water well pump.
Types of Pumps
There are two different commonly used water well pumps, jet pumps and submersible pumps. The type of pump that you will use depends on the type of well that you have. If you live in an area with a high water table then you will only need to use a jet pump.
However if you live in an area with a low water table, you will need to have a deeper well, and likewise consider using a submersible pump.
Jet Pump
A jet pump is the commonly used to pump water from a shallow well because it uses suction. It doesn’t necessarily pump?the water because suction is produced from the atmospheric pressure, similar to sipping through a straw. Because a jet pump uses suction, they cannot operate at great depths, with twenty five feet being the typical limit.
Submersible Pump
However not everyone water table can be reached within twenty five feet. If you have to dig a deeper well you will be using a submersible pump instead. By using a submersible pump, rather than trying to lift water up to the surface you will be pushing it up.
Although a submersible pump may be more effective at getting water out of a deeper well, if a problem occurs with the motor, then it will be a more costly repair.
Proper Filtration
No matter what type of well and pump you have and use to get your water, it is important that you have an efficient filtration system for it. If it is a shallow well, then there is a higher risk of having contaminants in it.
Chemicals, bacteria, viruses, and parasites are all different types of things that can get into your well, especially if there are large amounts of fecal matter from people and animals above the well.
This can occur on a farm or in an area with a poor sewage system. Having a proper filtration system can minimize the amount of contaminants in your drinking water, thereby reducing the chance of disease and sickness from drinking it.
